Rice Water for Hair Growth

Yes, it not only promotes hair growth, but can prevent premature hair loss and graying. It can also reduce surface friction and improve hair elasticity. It has been known to make hair shinier and stronger from the inside out.

Rice water contains minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and 8 essential amino acids-the building blocks of proteins.
One of the key components that aids in the growth process is Inositol.

Inositol is a carbocyclic sugar that is naturally synthesized in our bodies from glucose. This carbohydrate is able to penetrate damaged hair and repair it from the inside out. Even after rinsing, inositol stays inside the hair, protecting it from future damage.

I would be remiss if I did not mention all the great skin benefits one can receive from using rice water on their skin. It helps prevent age spots, ease inflammation (puffy eyes), smooths and softens skin.

History

The Yao women have been using rice water for over 2,000 years and are known for their long black hair. Most of the Yao women have hair as long as 6 feet. Their secret is that they wash their hair with fermented rice water.

There are many recipes online for rice water, but one tried and true recipe I found is as follows:

1.      (1) cup of rice-rinse first to remove impurities.

2.      Once rinsed, soak in two cups of warm water and cover for a minimum of 30 minutes.

3.      Strain the rice and extract the water into a glass jar and keep it covered.

4.      Leave it alone for 2-3 day at room temperature until it starts to smell sour.

5.      Once ready, add a few drops (5-6) of essential oils and store in the fridge.

6.      Before use dilute rice water- 1 cup of rice water to 2 cups of water.

7. Once a week use the rice water like a shampoo or a final rinse.
